Today is Cinco de Mayo, one of the favorite holidays celebrated in San Antonio. It actually originated with the Mexican-America communites in the West to remember the cause of freedom and democracy during the start of the Civil War period.
Now days, in the U.S., Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. Because of the nature of the holiday, many mistake Cinco de Mayo as Mexico’s Independence Day – but it is not, that is celebrated on September 16th each year.
